The defending AABC National Champion Albany Athletics have jumped out to their traditional fast start this season opening with a 6-0 Twilight mark and 7-1 overall record, thanks to a recent doubleheader sweep of the Albany Senators.
In the sweep, lefthander Chris Salamida earned the win in relief of a 4-3 victory, then picked up the save in a 6-3 win in the nitecap. Meanwhile Ron Patterson beat out a double play ball to help score Mike Allen as the game-winning run in the bottom of the 7th of the 4-3 win. Mike Fish doubled in a run in the game as the A’s came back from a 3-0 deficit.
In game #2, the A’s broke a 3-3 tie in the 6th when Allen scored on an error then Tim O’Connor singled in an insurance run. Fish doubled in a run again and Drew Cody tied the score with a sac fly in the 5th inning. Starter JJ Pearsall went five innings to earn the win.
The Athletics travel to Watertown to play the Rams of the Perfect Game Collegiate League, then follow with a game against Greenville of the Eastern NY Travel League and follow that with a date with the Saratoga Brigade of the New England Collegiate League.
